The Clarke family have been providing funeral services since 1928. We pride ourselves on a discreet professional service.
We provide a funeral Service for all religious denominations in East Cavan and into part of county Meath.
Our purpose built funeral home was completed in Oct 2012 and officially opened on 13th April 2013 by the president of the Irish Association of Funeral Directors Joanne Cooney.
History of Clarkes Funeral Directors
Clarke’s Funeral Directors was set up in 1928 by Michael Clarke, who started his business as a hardware shop and then gradually expanded into groceries and feed stuffs. Alongside his undertaking service, he also ran a public house, which continued to operate until 1999.
When Clarke’s Funeral Directors started trading, there were eight other undertakers in Bailieborough. Michael was the first to have a motor hearse in the local area and would regularly hire out this hearse to different undertakers locally, on an as needed basis. This service continued into the late eighties, as many funeral directors did not own their own hearse.
Michael Clarke passed away in 1968 and a young Francis Clarke took over the running of the business to the present day. He is assisted today by his son, Aidan, who has been working in the business since 2002. Both Francis and Aidan still run the hardware shop. A brand new service room was opened in October 2012.
Clarke’s are an accredited member of the Irish Association of Funeral Directors and pleased to serve the people of the area, carrying on a family tradition of undertaking in a professional and respectful way.
We have built a purpose-built funeral home in Bailieborough, which gives bereaved families the choice of using the funeral home or home wakes or the combination of both.
Clarkes Funeral Home is a, non-denominational home and welcomes the bereaved to hold religious or civil services, with their own celebrants, should they wish. Aside from its main reception area and viewing rooms, the home also houses a large casket showroom, a preparation room and gents, ladies and disabled toilets.
Service Room
This service room is dedicated to the late Michael Clarke who started the funeral business in 1928 . The idea of the funeral home is too give the people of our area the choice of a home wake or to be waked in a purpose built funeral home. As a non denominational and a cross community home we welcome the bereaved to hold religious or civil services, with or without their own celebrants. We have a public address system and facilities to play cds etc for a personal farewell. Skype feature available in the service room to connect to family abroad via our broadband connection. It is possible to have a combination of a private family wake at home followed by a public viewing at the Funeral Home. This combines tradition while also removing the stress of opening your house up to potentially large numbers of visitors. There is plenty of car parking spaces available at the home.
